Background
It has been 50 years since the Nordic Sami Institute was established. The Sami University, of which the institute became a part in 2005, will now hold an anniversary seminar divided into six main sections.
- In the first part, it is about the NSIs history and the research that was carried out, and the overall importance of the Sami language in research.
- The second part, political institutions such as the Sami Council and the Sami Parliaments are invited to talk about what they see as a need for research in Sápmi.
- Next, the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Department of Knowledge, which provide rapid support for Sami research, are invited to talk about how their own importance for Sami research and how to support Sami research in future.
The second day of the seminar continues with the fourth part where we invite today's Sami research institutions to talk about the status of research and the future visions/desires from their own institutions.
- In the fifth part, Sami University will present the current research status and future research needs.
Finally, we invite our own young researchers who are on doctorate degrees to present research that is being done today. Their research is a continuation of current research from the time when the research institution itself, the Nordic Sami Institute, was established.
